Interactive Design

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

Explore the power of design to change people’s lives.

Behind every great experience is a designer who envisioned every moment.

Learn what human-centered design really means, and discover how to create visual design work that responds to human interaction. You'll design end-to-end user experiences that address the needs, emotions, and behaviors of real people. Our reimagined general education curriculum will deeply engage you in 21st-century issues facing humankind, helping you to become a socially conscious designer.

Develop the visual and conceptual skills that serve as a foundation for all design work as you grow into your career as a mobile app designer, information architect, web designer, user experience (UX) researcher, commercial artist, and more.

And build on those skills during your internships in places like Marquis Design, Puma, American Repertory Theater, Hasbro, and more. With faculty guidance and support you'll have opportunities to gain real-world, on-the-job training in one of top-rated cities for designers and make connections that will help launch your career.

At Lesley University's College of Art and Design, you'll immerse in a thriving community of experienced design faculty who will teach you the tools and techniques for prototyping interactive design. Work directly with clients, conduct user testing, and prototype and design projects using industry-standard tools and technologies. Your classwork will push you to develop your world view and your empathy as you work to solve complex challenges at individual and global scales.

By the end of the program, you'll showcase your knowledge of visual thinking and dynamic interactions in a portfolio that will engage, delight, and create a meaningful impact on your audience.

Student Work

Small Art School, Big University

We're a premier art and design school of about 700 students, but we're also part of a dynamic university with a liberal arts college. This means you'll have the small studio, hands-on experience of a professional art school where you'll gain industry-specific knowledge. And, you'll benefit from a broader perspective of a liberal arts educational experience—something most art schools can't provide.

Rebecca Robertson
UX student Rebecca Robertson returns to school while working full time and finds she is able to grow as a professional designer and advocate for the needs of the users she works with. While balancing courses with a full-time job seemed daunting, she says she's loved merging her academic and professional lives to help her advance her skills and confidence.

Cambridge is our campus. Boston is our neighbor.

Cambridge is one of the most creative cities in the country. In fact, there are about 96 art and culture events happening in the Greater Boston area every day. And while you'll benefit from our dynamic surroundings, you'll also be a big part of them. You'll take art and design classes in our $48 million Lunder Arts Center. And our $7 million Visual Effects (VFX) studio—a state-of-the-art facility where our VFX curriculum comes alive—is the only one of its kind in New England.
