Summer 2021 Online College Courses for High School Students at Lesley's College of Art and Design

Are you a rising high school sophomore, junior, or senior, or a gap-year student, thinking ahead to college and your future career? Here's an idea: Enroll in college-level studio classes taught online by inspiring Lesley University's College of Art and Design faculty and meet other young people who are as driven and creative as you are.

Sign up for one week or two weeks of our summer intensive studio courses mornings or afternoons, Monday–Friday, July 12–16 & July 19–23, 2021.

Cost & Scholarships

  • Courses for 1 college credit spread out over one or two weeks: $345 ($325 tuition + $20 one-time registration fee)
  • Two-week courses for 2 college credits: $670 ($650 tuition + $20 one-time registration fee)

Choose one course or more. We’ve made it easy for you to sign up for more than one course by mixing and matching to create your ideal summer schedule. Classes begin on July 12 or July 19 and run for one or two weeks.

  • Design Your Personal Brand

    Have you ever wondered what it takes to design a brand? Or how to make information visual and meaningful? This hands-on intensive course offers you the opportunity to develop and utilize your own personal brand. The goal is to translate who you feel you are as a person into a conceptual and visually dynamic design. Guided by faculty, you'll be immersed in the complete design process including conceptual development through professional design execution. Projects will incorporate hand-based sketching processes and digital design tools such as Adobe Illustrator.

    To enroll in this online course, students should have regular access to a computer equipped with Adobe Illustrator.

    You'll receive one transferable college credit upon successfully completing this one-week course.

  • Photography Portfolio Development**

    This online course is designed for students with a strong interest in studying photography for college credit. Students should have experience in digital capture (dSLR) and/or traditional B&W darkroom before taking the course. We will examine the ways in which photographers develop cohesive and meaningful bodies of work. Students should come to the course with existing images that they are interested in expanding into a portfolio. As a group, we will focus on students’ strengths through critique and sequencing for inclusion in a final portfolio. Assignments will be given to help expand upon and strengthen your current body of work. 

    To enroll in this online course, students should have regular access to a computer equipped with Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, and Photoshop. A digital SLR camera is optional.

    You'll receive one transferable college credit upon successfully completing this one-week course.

  • Comics + the Graphic Novel

    This course explores the history and craft of visual narratives including comics, graphic novels, and storyboards. You’ll examine historic and contemporary examples of sequential narratives and visual storytelling. You’ll work on developing a story concept, creating dynamic characters and environments, and formatting your work. Through in-class demonstrations and hands-on studio time, you’ll explore a rich variety of techniques that will help you bring your story to life. 

    To enroll in this online course, students should have regular access to a computer.

  • Portrait Drawing

    This course will give each student an intimate understanding of how to conceptualize and construct a portrait. By exploring fundamental concepts and techniques such as; proportion, structure, features, likeness, and how to visualize and draw the head from different angles students will gain the ability to develop accurate and expressive portraits. Students will use a variety of source material and media.

  • Fine Arts Portfolio Prep

    This course will get you ready for the art school admission process! It's designed for students who want to apply to art college in fine arts or undeclared majors. The course will consist of assignments and critiques. The assignments will range from observational drawing, to mixed media and content-driven work. Learn how to explore your personal interests and push your skills! In our critiques and discussions, you'll develop the ability to talk about your own work and be ready for the college interview process. You'll be exposed to contemporary fine artists to help inspire new ideas and the art-making process! You'll also learn how to edit and organize your work to compile your strongest portfolio possible.
