Educating for Social Impact

What began as Lesley College, a teacher training school, is now Lesley University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Located in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts since 1909, we've evolved from our roots in education. Today, undergraduate students come to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to seek inventive answers to human problems. Our 25+ majors share one purpose: to prepare graduates to make social impact. We cultivate the critical creative problem-solving skills that 21st-century careers demand.

It's an equation that begins with small, discussion-based classes led by passionate faculty. But it doesn't end there. Here, learning goes far beyond the classroom. It immerses students in real-world experiences. Experiences that foster original thinking, social justice, perseverance, and above all, solutions.

“We all share a hunger to go out into the world
and do something meaningful.”
Christine Evans, Professor, Division Director Humanities

Small School, Big Resources

To us, small means more collaboration, more mentoring, and more individual progress. Staying small is a catalyst for achieving big.

At the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, undergraduates get the best of both worlds: an intimate liberal arts school experience combined with the opportunities of a larger university.

Students can focus within the liberal arts, or combine disciplines from the College of Art and Design. We also offer pathways to master’s degrees in our Graduate School of Education and Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences.

Child Homelessness Initiative

We wanted to do something about child homelessness. To raise awareness and to prepare our undergraduate students who are planning to work with children and families.

Our Child Homelessness Initiative provides undergraduate students with the tools to support young homeless citizens. Because the next generation of childcare providers, teachers, counselors, and advocates will need specific knowledge and skills to work with our nation’s most vulnerable children.
