Individually Designed Program for Educators

Master of Education (M.Ed.): On Campus, Online, or Teacher Residency

Plan a degree program that meets your needs.

Design a program that’s right for you. Through our flexible M.Ed. program, you can create an individualized course of study that aligns with your career goals and interests. You’ll work with an academic advisor to choose courses that allow you to pursue a specialization, an endorsement or add-on license, or interdisciplinary work in the topics that interest you most. You can take this program on campus, with a variety of online courses, completely online, or as a teacher residency.

Nine of your eleven courses will be electives, while the final two will be required research courses designed to help you consolidate your coursework and develop an immersive action-research study.

You may choose to fulfill some of your elective courses by completing one of our graduate education certificates, which will show as a specialization on your transcript.

With the required prerequisite license, you may also consider a 24-credit license-only program in English as a Second Language for either grades PreK-6 or 5-12.

Then, with the skills needed for a rewarding career, you'll graduate from the university that educates more teachers than anyone else in New England. In fact, more than 4,500 people have earned a teaching degree here in just the last five years. Employers in Massachusetts prefer to hire Lesley graduates, saying they are best prepared to enter the classroom on day one.

    Remote Learning for Fall 2020

The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff come first. Due to COVID-related campus restrictions in Fall 2020, we are offering the on-campus version of this program remotely, in 15-week face-to-face courses that have been moved online for now. Instruction is both asynchronous and synchronous. Any program courses that were previously fully online will be taught in 8 week terms with asynchronous instruction.

Whatever the delivery mode, you'll get the same careful attention and support from our dedicated faculty and staff.

Please contact luadmissions@lesley.edu if you have any questions.

    Yearlong Teacher Residency Option

Finish your degree in just over a year—with double the teaching experience and at a reduced cost—as a resident intern at Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine. In this program format, you participate full-time in the life of the school, and take classes at both the school site and Lesley.

    Summer 2020 Residency Update

Every summer, a new cohort of students starts its teacher residency program by taking courses on the Lesley campus in Cambridge, MA. This summer, for the well-being of our community, and in keeping with federal and state health and safety guidelines related to COVID-19, we have decided to offer all summer learning in a remote format. We will use synchronous online instruction through electronic platforms and tools, as well as assign independent online work that you’ll complete at your own pace.

In addition, we will build a community through online platforms, where you can communicate regularly with your instructors and peers. While we will miss being together in our face-to-face format, we look forward to seeing each other in our virtual courses and community gatherings.
