Human Services: Off-Campus Community College Partnership

Joshua believes that students learn when they are engaged and active in the classroom. His teaching philosophy is one where he is facilitating a group discussion more than lecturing to a class. 

His area of academic focus and expertise includes forensic social work, social work practice with individuals and groups, and gerontology.

Joshua launched Lesley's Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree in Fall 2019. Joshua holds a Master of Social Work and PhD in Social Work from the University of Alabama. 

Sarah Doyle is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and at the Lesley at Bunker Hill program. She is also a Program Supervisor for middle and high school teacher candidates for the Education Department of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and for the Graduate School of Education.

She is a PhD candidate in Educational Studies at Lesley University. Her current research is based in reproductive and social justice for high school students who are pregnant—or parenting—students.

Some of the courses that Sarah teaches are Social Policy, Sociology of Family, Research Methods, and Contemporary U.S. Society.

Janel retired from Lesley in May 2018 after 28 years of service.  She always brought her extensive experience as a clinical social worker with individuals, families, and communities to her courses.

Her areas of academic focus and expertise include: social work, ethics, and cultural competence. At Lesley, she has taught the following courses: Concepts and Skills in Professional Practice, Introduction to Social Work, Case Management in Social Work and Counseling, Child Welfare: Challenges and Solutions, Contemporary Issues in Counseling and Human Services, Human Services Internship and Seminar, and Research Methods in Social Sciences. 

She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, a MSW and PhD from Simmons University, and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. 

Melanie earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is the Graduate Program Director of the Master's in Mental Health program and Clinical Faculty for the Counseling Psychology PhD program at UMass Boston. Her approach as an instructor, supervisor, and clinician are informed by a social justice and multicultural lens. She encourages critical thinking and open dialogue among students about working with diversity and how this relates to personal and professional identity integration.
