Photography

Christine Collins received her BA from Skidmore College and her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In addition to the courses she teaches with us, Christine also teaches photography workshops at Maine Media Workshops and Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Her editorial clients include The New York Times Magazine and Bloomberg Business.

Vivian is a faculty member in the College of Art and Design. Before joining Lesley, Vivian was a mentor in a photography apprenticeship program for high school students at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild, and was an artist in residence in Pittsburgh public high schools. She then became an artist teacher at the Children's Studio Public Charter School for the Arts and Architecture in Washington DC. 

As an artist and educator, Vivian engages the arts as a process of investigation both in and out of the classroom. Her photographic work examines a number of issues ranging from history, migration and cultural assimilation to the passing of time. She is American, born in Mexico of Cuban parents and lived in Guatemala and Colombia before moving to the U.S. This complicated trajectory informs all of her work. Read about her family's history.

Vivian is the 2017 recipient of the Massachusetts Art Education Association's Massachusetts Higher Education Art Educator of the Year award.

Jen Barrows is an adjunct faculty in the Photography department and the Director of Academic Computing at the College of Art and Design. She teaches analog and digital darkroom techniques in addition to studio lighting. Jen has an MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. Her interdisciplinary work deals with the construction of the American identity both in how it is represented and how it is lived in.

Goodman has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States. In 2019, he had a solo exhibition, Not Recent Color, at the Addison Gallery of American Art. His work was featured in the Naked Before the Camera exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. His work is in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard Art Museums, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work has appeared in New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Esquire, and Rolling Stone. Goodman has shot advertising campaigns for Gucci, Gap, Converse, Timberland and Reebok.

David Hilliard exhibits his photographs both nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards such as the Fulbright and Guggenheim. His photographs can be found in many important collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

His work is represented by the Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, Carroll and Sons Gallery in Boston, Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta, The Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown, MA and in Paris at La Galerie Particuliere. In 2005 a collection of his photographs was published in a monograph by Aperture Press. His newest monograph, What Could Be, was released by Minor Matters Books in 2014. In 2017 David received a fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for outstanding work (his project with his father titled “Sans Means Without”).

Sarah Hulsey teaches in the photography and illustration departments here at the College of Art and Design. She focuses on book arts and letterpress in her courses. Sarah holds an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts (2013), a PhD in Linguistics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2008), and an AB in Linguistics from Harvard University (2001).

Stella Johnson is a photographer and educator known for her passionate and honest documentary projects. She received a Core Fulbright Scholar Grant to photograph in Mexico in 2003, and a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant to teach in Mexico in 2006.

Johnson also teaches at Boston University and workshops in Greece, Cuba, and Mexico. She was a 2013 finalist for the Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship, Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50, and a nominee for the Boston Foundation’s Brother Thomas Fellowship. Johnson’s work has received numerous honors including a New England Foundation for the Arts Cultural Collaborative Artist-in-Residence Grant and Julia Margaret Cameron Award.

Johnson holds a BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute and an MS in journalism from Boston University. Her work is held in public collections at The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, The Haggerty Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Portland Museum of Art, and The Southeast Museum of Photography, among others.

Dana Mueller was born and raised in Thuringia, East Germany until the fall of the Berlin Wall. She received her MFA in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  

Mueller's photographs are visual records of encounters with people and environments that engage both familiar and foreign realms. Her narratives of everyday lives explore individual and collective identities using social context and landscapes to investigate these identities in relation to cultural and political realities. A second major theme is her return to her homeland of Thuringia and the emigrant experience of Heimat as otherness.

Mueller currently teaches at the College of Art and Design as well as Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Northeastern University College of Art, Media and Design. At Northeastern she taught Study Abroad programs in Venice and Havana, and in recent years has been directing their Photography and Design program in Berlin, Germany.

Greer Muldowney is an artist, photography instructor and independent curator based in Boston, Massachusetts. She received an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Studio Art from Clark University, and an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has acted as the Curator for the Desotorow Gallery in Savannah, GA and was the Regional Coordinator for the Flash Forward Festival on behalf of the Magenta Foundation. Muldowney also has served as a member of the Board for the Griffin Museum of Photography, and currently teaches at Boston College, Boston University and Lesley University College of Art and Design.

Her work has been exhibited and published nationally and internationally. She is also the recipient of the 2013 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship and a PDN 30 Photographer to watch for 2014.

Jessica has been in love with photography for most of her life. She was exposed to the act of picture making through her grandfather, an avid amateur photographer, and in the family bathroom-turned-darkroom after sunset. Here, her parents would allow her to witness actual magic as she stood over the chemical trays watching an image appear where only a simple white sheet of paper was before. As a kid, she received a Kodak disc camera and became addicted to the act of expressing her view of the world from the 4-foot-high perspective of a seven-year-old. Her height has since increased but her addiction continues. She holds a BFA in Studio Art from Albertus Magnus College (1998) and an MFA in Photography from Hartford Art School (2002). She also is a College of Art and Design alumna, earning an MFA in Photography from us in 2013.

Brian Unwin is an adjunct instructor in the Photography department here at the College of Art and Design. He has taught Lecture Lab II, Black and White Photography II, Color Photography, and Black and White Independent Study. He holds a BFA in Photography from Massachusetts College of Art (1999).
