Join poet Joan Houlihan for a free small-group writing workshop designed to demonstrate how work is analyzed and discussed in the Lesley University MFA in Creative Writing program. Houlihan is the author of five books of poetry, most recently, Shadow-feast (Four Way Books). Her poetry has been anthologized in The Iowa Anthology of New American Poetries (University of Iowa Press) and The Book of Irish-American Poetry-Eighteenth Century to Present (University of Notre Dame Press). She is a contributing critic for the Contemporary Poetry Review and author of a series of essays on contemporary American poetry archived online at bostoncomment.com
Graphic Novel & Comics
Join cartoonist, illustrator, and comics instructor Sophie Goldstein for a seminar titled Worldbuilding & Narrative. The best fictional universes are compelling because they are based on an iron structure of internal logic that not only feels as real as the laws of our own universe but also helps fuel the engine of the story. Through the examination of several fictional universes we will see how other artists and storytellers construct compelling narratives and use these frameworks to examine contemporary social and moral issues.
Stage & Screen
Join playwright and screenwriter Barry Brodsky for a look into how things work in the Lesley MFA in Creative Writing program’s Stage & Screen track. Brodsky’s screenplay I Miss You was shown at the 2012 Algerian Film Festival. He is a two-time semi-finalist in the Chesterfield Film Writer's Competition, and a nominee for Best New Play in 2008 by Independent Reviewers of New England for The Boys of Winter. His play Returnees was named a finalist in 2008 at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
All workshops located in University Hall.
