Design for User Experience

Explore the human factors involved in designing solutions that provide users with intuitive experiences across an ecosystem of products, services, and systems. See Design for User Experience course offerings for both Terms I and II.

  • Term I: May 11–July 5

    USER EXPERIENCE I (IDESN 1500)

    This course will provide students with an overview of User Experience (UX), design methods, and the role of research in designing for user experience.

    INTRODUCTION TO WEB DESIGN (IDESN 2115)

    Students explore the use of basic design principles in the web environment, and are introduced to new concepts in interactivity and site navigation.

    UX BUSINESS PRACTICES (IDESN 2810)

    This course introduces students to the business of design. Students use information on budgets, salaries, freelance rates, project planning, and project proposals to understand their role in a business environment.

    HISTORY OF MODERN DESIGN (IAHIS 2100)

    This course examines transformations of form during the modern period (c. 850 to the present), with emphasis on the crosscurrents between the various fields of design.

  • Term II: July 6–August 30

    TYPOGRAPHY I (IDESN 2220)

    A deep-dive into the study of letterforms, typefaces, type identification, classification, and nomenclature. Course work includes typographic form and structure; including consideration of the micro (individual letters) outward to the macro (a page of text with clear hierarchical structure).

    ELEMENTS OF INTERFACE (IDESN 2750)

    This course focuses interface design through the creation of a consistent visual language for interface appearance and usability.

    HISTORY OF INTERFACE (IAHIS 2105)

    This course examines the history of interface from the 19th century to present through a chronological study of various tools and technologies created for human computer interaction.
