Students Speak: Student Voice as an Essential Component of Safe and Supportive Schools
Saturday, July 13
5:00 - 6:00 pm EST
Decisions about schooling are often made without listening deeply to students themselves. Yet students are in the best position to understand what they need. This keynote address will introduce Students Speak, an initiative that supports students from historically marginalized groups to raise their voices about what they need to do well in school. Participants will hear from high school student presenters and their adult allies about how increasing opportunities for student voice and agency in decision-making processes can enhance students’ feeling of belonging and improve their academic achievement. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their thinking about incorporating inclusive, school-based, decision-making practices that promote Safe and Supportive School cultures.
