Literacy for All Conference celebrates 30 years of dedication to literacy

Annual literacy professional development conference is Oct. 20-22 in Providence, Rhode Island

The annual Literacy for All Conference is celebrating its 30th year as the leading literacy and Reading Recovery conference in the Northeast.

The conference, which will be held in Providence on October 20-22, brings together a network of literacy professionals to promote early intervention as a way to assure the literacy success of all children and enhance the expertise of educators in the K-8 educational system.

This milestone celebration will feature a cadre of respected authors and literacy experts including three inspiring keynote speakers: Kwame Alexander, Carmen Agra Deedy and C.C. Bates. Lesley University President Janet Steinmayer will deliver the opening remarks.

“We are delighted to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Literacy for All Conference,” says Irene Fountas, director of the Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative and Professor at Lesley University. “Our collective work has helped millions of children realize the endless possibilities that life holds through the power of knowing how to read and write.”

The Literacy for All Conference is specifically designed for classroom teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches, interventionists, literacy leaders, administrators and Reading Recovery teachers. A wide range of sessions from preschool through middle school will be taught by literacy specialists on topics that include: early literacy, adolescent literacy, intervention, coaching, children’s literature, reader’s workshop, guided reading, writer’s workshop, phonics, spelling and vocabulary and Reading Recovery.

The conference is hosted by the Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative at Lesley University, in collaboration with the University of Maine.
