Laurel Sparks

MFA Faculty Member

Sparks' abstract paintings come from an alchemical practice combining esoteric language, sacred geometry, and theatrical artifice. As stated in a review in the Brooklyn Rail, "For Sparks, painting is simultaneously a belief system and a way to create icons that put the viewer into contact with an occult power. On the other hand, there is the magic of sensuous seduction. The works are simply beautiful and express only their own aesthetic delight."

Her work has been shown at Cheim & Read, NY; MFA, Boston; and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, NY. She is represented by Kate Werble Gallery, NY.
