Lesley announces new faculty emeritae and Distinguished Service honors

Longtime retired professors recognized for contributions to the university

At a recent holiday celebration, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Jonathan K. Jefferson announced the names of three professors emeritae and two recipients of the Distinguished Service designation.

Faculty Emeritae

Dr. Christine Evans joined the Lesley community in 1988. She served as full professor, Humanities Division chair, and as Interim Dean of our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Notably, she founded the Honors Program for outstanding undergraduate students.

Liza Folman joined Lesley in 1990. She achieved the rank of full professor at the Art Institute of Boston, now our College of Art and Design. During her tenure here, she built one of the finest Printmaking Studios and curriculum in New England.

Dr. Robin Roth joined Lesley in 1988. In addition to her outstanding teaching and mentorship as full professor in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and our Graduate School of Education, she also served as Social Sciences Division chair and school dean of Lesley College.

Distinguished Achievement

Dr. Susan Ashbrook joined Lesley in 2005 and has been a valued colleague for over 15 years at the Art Institute of Boston and our College of Art and Design. She established the Art History major and served as chair of the Art History department.

Dr. Brenda Matthis joined Lesley in 2001 and retired as an associate professor in our Graduate School of Education, where she was also the chair of the PhD Department in Educational Studies.
