Alumna’s book ‘Shift of Heart’ aims to foster inner peace, connection to others

Cheryl Melody Baskin has built a career teaching music, and using her art to heal and inspire.

An alumna who has carved out a career performing, teaching and healing with music has embarked on another facet of the arts, as an author.

Cheryl Melody Baskin, who earned an independent-study master’s degree at Lesley in the 1980s, has self-published an inspirational self-help book, “Shift of Heart: Paths to Healing and Love.”

The book, according to a press release, “vibrates love, inspiration, compassion and encouragement.”

"Each chapter guides readers toward balance, mindfulness and inner peace, the release adds, and is “packed with crystal wisdom, practical tools for navigating challenges, true inspirational stories, short guided visualizations, reflections and meditations, positive affirmations and a self-help approach humorously entitled ‘My 5 Minute (Chakra) Quickie.’”

Baskin, who performs under the name Cheryl Melody, founded a music school in Weston, Mass., where she resides with her husband, and has performed for children and adults, from the Berkshires to Oklahoma City, where she played a healing concert for survivors of the 2005 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

Baskin has also released a number of CDs for children and adults, as well as recordings of what she calls “adult lullabies.”

Her new book, Baskin says, “has been inside of me ever since I was an introspective 15-year-old.”

“I wanted to encourage people to go towards each and every one of their own dreams, invite them to integrate the inner growth tools that I use each day to help me balance and have more of a sense of centeredness and mindfulness,” Baskin adds. “As a teacher for adults and children all of my life, I wanted to share ways to find more inner peace, to open one’s heart in the worst of times," and help readers find "more healing within each of us.”

“Shift of Heart” is available online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
