Trees Grow Lively on Snowy Fields Zoom Reading

Add to Calendar 2022-02-16 19:00 2022-02-16 20:00 America/New_York Trees Grow Lively on Snowy Fields Zoom Reading Join Professor Stephen Haven as he takes part in a Zoom poetry reading and discussion about his recently published collaborative translation anthology.

Stephen Haven, professor of Creative Writing, will speak on Trees Grow Lively on Snowy Fields: Poems from Contemporary China, the Mandarin/English anthology on which he took part as a collaborative translator. The anthology is featured on FindThisBest's "Top 24 Best Contemporary Chinese Poetry Books of 2022" list.

Many of the poets in the anthology—in the 1970s and 1980s—were among the first Chinese writers following the 1949 Revolution to publish poems without attempting first to win approval from state censors. Two other collaborative translators—Wang Shouyi and Jin Zhong—will join him and Ted Morrissey of Twelve Winters Press for a Zoom discussion and reading from the anthology.
