In this 2-day workshop, learn how to use shared reading to explicitly and systematically teach for fluency and phonics, spelling, and word-solving skills in whole-group and small-group settings.
Shared reading makes learning about phonemic awareness, phonics, word-solving and fluency a joy-filled part of the school day. Learn how to engage all children in successful daily reading of delightful stories, poems, songs and nonfiction texts to explicitly and systematically teach foundational skills to your students.
Topics will include:
- A foundational skills scope and sequence for shared reading, grades K-3
- The structure of shared reading across multiple days
- Selecting and analyzing age appropriate, grade-appropriate texts for shared reading
- Phonemic awareness in shared reading
- Supporting phonics skills during the shared reading lesson
- Expanding vocabulary during shared reading
- Fluency instruction during shared reading
- Developing early literacy concepts for emergent readers
- A variety of ways for children to reread texts
You will earn 10 clock hours in this training.
