To become a model for higher education––serving educators, mental health professionals, artists, and neurodiverse learners––we are always looking to expand lifelong learning pathways for our alumni and the greater practitioner community.

Art & Design Professional Learning Opportunities

Friday, October 23, 9am – 5pm

Ceramics and Wheel-Throwing Intensive

Instructor: Sean Lutz

Participants will be eligible to receive 10 PDPs upon completing one full day workshop and two hours of asynchronous work.
$75 per person

Discover the art and craft of wheel-thrown ceramics in this hands-on workshop designed for educators of all experience levels. Whether you’re sitting at the wheel for the first time or refining techniques you’ve used for years, you’ll be supported through every stage of the process to develop techniques for vessel making. From wedging and centering to throwing and trimming, participants will develop technical skills while exploring the rich language of ceramics, including ideas of utility, form, metaphor, and craftsmanship. Along the way, you’ll gain insights, strategies, and inspiration to enrich both your own creative work and your teaching practice.

Morning coffee will be provided. Lunch is on your own; feel free to pack a lunch or take advantage of several nearby dining options during a brief midday break.

Typographic Language

Instructor: Kristina Lamour Sansone, Ed.D.

Participants will be eligible to receive 10 PDPs upon completing one full day workshop and two hours of asynchronous work.

Discover the expressive possibilities of typography in this hands-on workshop designed for high school educators across content areas, particularly those working with neurodiverse and multilingual learners. Working with letters from Langston Hughes’s A Dream Deferred, participants will use cut-and-paste methods to explore visual decision-making and develop an intuitive approach to voice, hierarchy, composition, and meaning. Along the way, you’ll gain insights, strategies, and inspiration for using typography as a creative tool in your own teaching practice. This workshop has been facilitated with high school teachers in the Boston and Providence Public Schools. Participants can easily replicate as a classroom activity if they have access to tabloid-size paper, a Xerox machine, scissors, and glue sticks.
