Alex Kozulin, Ph.D. is the Research Director at the International Center for the Enhancement of Learning Potential in Jerusalem, and is one of the major specialists in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory.
The presentation will take place in the University Hall Amphitheatre, 2nd floor, 1815 Mass Ave., Cambridge.

Preparing Faculty for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Schools
An Invitation to Lesley University Faculty
The goal of this professional development institute is for faculty to learn and consider how best to prepare teachers and other service providers to serve culturally and linguistically diverse students. All full-time and adjunct faculty are invited to participate.
Dr. Patricia Medeiros Landurand, a nationally recognized consultant in CLD education and former Mary Thorpe Professor at Rhode Island College, will lead the Institute.
Session I - Friday, February 27, 2009
Preparing Teachers for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Teaching: Opportunities and Challenges for Teacher Preparation - Part I
This session will address a brief history of issues relevant to culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students and school reform in relation to teacher preparation programs. A demographic analysis of CLD student populations, diverse teaching personnel and "High Quality" teachers will be discussed. IHE approaches to preparing educators to serve diverse learners will be highlighted.

Preparing Teachers for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Teaching: Opportunities and Challenges for Teacher Preparation - Part II
Identified critical dispositions, knowledge and skills that educators need to serve diverse learners will be presented. Principles for building responsive learning environments for successful schooling for CLD students will be described.
Session III - Friday, April 3, 2009
The Journey: Mapping Outcomes, Revisiting What Is and Creating What Needs To BeThis session will describe how one college revisited its program, mapped its journey and created a new graduate program that facilitated changes in teaching practices both in the public schools as well as in the college. Changes in both schools and districts as well as changes at the state level will be described. A sample course syllabus will be presented and participating faculty will share ideas and will be assisted in revising one of their courses to better prepare teachers to meet the needs of CLD students.
Session IV - Friday, April 24, 2009
Programs Issues of Diversity at Lesley University: Where Are We? Where Do We Need to Be? How Do We Get There?
This session will involve participants in both an individual and shared process of identifying the status of their own teaching in relation to diversity issues and will assist each participant in developing his/her own syllabi and individual faculty diversity plan.
