Fall 2021 Reopening Plans
We will reopen our campuses for classes, activities, and residential living in Fall 2021. Find the latest information on our Fall 2021 Plan page.

Fall 2021 Community Compact

For the purposes of this Compact, the Lesley University community is defined as including current students, faculty, and professional staff who are working, studying, or living on campus.

The health and safety of the Lesley community and the viability of the on-campus programming depend on each member of the community accepting responsibility for their individual roles. It is critical that every community member follow our health and safety protocols as we reopen our campuses for in-person classes, residential life, and work.

Lesley’s planning and operations related to COVID-19 will continue to be guided by the information that we receive from the Centers for Disease Control, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Massachusetts Governor’s Office, and the City of Cambridge, and are subject to change at any time.

Next Steps for Students

  1. Please read this Community Compact carefully.
  2. Indicate your consent to this Community Compact by typing your name in the signature field on the online form that is on this web page, by August 15, 2021, before arriving on campus.
  3. If you are under 18, your parent/guardians will need to sign the Community Compact.
  4. All students will need to provide an emergency contact on the form as well.
  5. As soon as you select "submit", your form will be sent to Dean Nathaniel Mays and you will get a confirmation email.
  6. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk/spam folder.

The Compact

We expect Lesley students using in-person campus resources to read and sign the Return to Campus Community Compact for Fall 2021, here on this web page, before returning to campus, by August 15, 2021. Parents or guardians must sign the Compact for any student under the age of 18. We require a signed agreement to the Compact before a student accesses campus resources.

  • Health and Safety

As a Lesley University Student, I will adhere to the following health and safety protocols as a condition of campus access:

I AGREE to provide proof of my COVID-19 vaccination no later than August 15, 2021, provided that I have not been granted a medical or religious waiver from Lesley University.

I AGREE to provide my completed immunization records prior to arrival on campus, in accordance with Massachusetts immunization requirements.

I AGREE if I am a student living in University housing or a student who has arrived from outside the U.S., I will provide proof of a negative PCR test for COVID-19 taken no more than 72 hours prior to my arrival on campus.

I AGREE that if I am a student living in University housing or a student who has arrived from outside the U.S., I also will be tested within 3-5 days of arrival and that reporting a positive result will require me to quarantine in University housing or to stay at home.

I AGREE to provide proof of having received a flu shot as soon as I am able to receive one this Fall.

I AGREE to promptly report any COVID-19 symptoms, any known close exposure, or a positive test result to Lesley’s Student Health Service and to follow Lesley's instructions for quarantine or staying at home. For residential students, this means possibly relocating to one of the designated quarantine residence halls.

I AGREE to cooperate fully with the University, the Cambridge Public Health Department, and the Massachusetts Community Tracing Collaborative in any contact tracing efforts, in the case that I may have been subject to a COVID-19 exposure or have had a positive test result.

I AGREE to adhere to all University requirements regarding wearing a face mask regardless of my vaccination status.

I UNDERSTAND that it is strongly encouraged for unvaccinated community members to wear a face mask outdoors in situations where physical distancing is not possible.

I UNDERSTAND that face masks should have at least two layers, and that bandanas, neck gaiters, buffs, and face masks with valves are not acceptable.

I AGREE to respect, and not to engage in behaviors that indicate otherwise, the decision of others to choose to wear a face mask or to physically distance themselves, even if it is not required to do so. I also understand that an individual’s decision to wear a face mask or to distance is not an indication of their vaccination status or their health status.

I AGREE TO practice good hygiene, including thorough handwashing, use of sanitizing stations, and cleaning up after myself in common spaces.

I AGREE to follow all current public health protocols of Lesley University and state and local authorities at all times and to cooperate fully in the implementation of any changes.

I UNDERSTAND that I am responsible for conducting myself in a way that reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission, and I also accept that all risk—even with individual, university, and community action—cannot be eliminated.

I UNDERSTAND that changes in public health guidance or other emergency circumstances could require the University to cancel all on-campus activities during the Fall semester and that I am responsible for all expenses related my departure from campus, including transportation.

I PLEDGE to adhere to the protocols in this Compact in order to protect my health and safety, as well as that of other members of the Lesley community.

  • Housing, Visitors, and On-Campus Programs

As a Lesley University student, I further agree to adhere to these principles and responsibilities of campus access:

I UNDERSTAND that I may not invite anyone who is not a current member of the Lesley community to visit me inside campus buildings with the exception of the publicly accessible areas of University Hall.

I UNDERSTAND that I will need to have my Lesley ID on my person at all times to access campus buildings and that my access to some buildings including residence halls other than my own may be restricted.

I AGREE that if I am a student residing in University housing, I will not invite non-resident students or other guests to visit me in my dormitory or hotel room.

I UNDERSTAND that it is each person’s responsibility to meet the expectations of this Compact. I also understand that it is not my responsibility to involve myself in any behavioral enforcement issues not related to me personally.

I UNDERSTAND that the arrangements that the university has made for me to be on campus are conditional and subject to change depending on my adherence to this Community Compact or changes in public health conditions. I also understand that not adhering to the Compact could result in my privileges being revoked or terminated before the end of the Fall semester.

I UNDERSTAND that if I am a student residing in University housing, I should have a contingency plan that includes arrangements for me to leave campus housing should it be determined that it is no longer safe for me or the community to remain on campus.

I UNDERSTAND that my ability to participate in on-campus programs is dependent upon my acceptance of this Community Compact.

I UNDERSTAND that it is my responsibility to adhere to the terms of this Compact and that if at any point, I believe that I am unable to live up to my responsibilities as a Lesley community member I will proactively remove myself from participation in in-person classes and activities and the University housing program.

I UNDERSTAND that any behaviors on my part that are in violation of this Compact or other University policies are reasons for me to have my campus privileges revoked.

  • Questions or Concerns?

Please contact Dean Nathaniel Mays at nmays@lesley.edu if you have any questions about any aspect of your Lesley on-campus experience, or any concerns about the behaviors of others who may not be following the Compact’s protocols or expectations.

Sign the Community Compact

I have read the Lesley University Fall 2021 Community Compact and agree to adhere to its protocols and expectations—which I understand may change at any time—as a condition of my continued access to the University’s on-campus facilities and privileges during the Fall 2021 semester.
