This mid-career retrospective showcases a selection of Scooter LaForge's work, including 18 paintings and 20 sculptural pieces. It is punctuated by his renowned Homo Eruptus series—a collection of mural-sized paintings inspired by the erotic murals of Pompeii.
The exhibition highlights LaForge’s diverse artistic journey, with works spanning nearly three decades, many sourced from private collections, reflecting his tenure as a prominent figure in New York’s downtown art scene. Known for his research-driven approach, LaForge frequently draws from pop culture and cartoon imagery, addressing themes such as sexuality, addiction, the AIDS crisis and gender, conveyed through his signature Neo-Expressionist aesthetic.
We invite you to attend a reception and meet Scooter LaForge from 5 to 7 pm on September 26, 2024.
LaForge will engage directly with the Lesley Art + Design community throughout the semester, offering students enriching programming, including workshops and critiques. The exhibition, curated by Andrew Mroczek, will be on display from September 3 to December 1.
This program is made possible by a generous grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
