Lesley University names Dr. Ernst VanBergeijk director of Threshold Program

Dr. VanBergeijk is an experienced leader of residential post-secondary programs for students with diverse learning challenges

The Office of the Provost announces the appointment of Dr. Ernst VanBergeijk as Director of the Threshold Program.

Dr. VanBergeijk will be joining the Lesley community on July 1, 2016.

He brings to Threshold over a decade of experience leading residential post-secondary programs for students with diverse learning challenges at the New York Institute of Technology.

Colleagues and graduates from NYIT praise Ernst’s leadership, community building, and interpersonal skills, and note with fondness his strong relationships with parents, students and alumni. 

As a parent of a student with special needs, VanBergeijk brings firsthand knowledge of the parent perspective along with empathy and compassion to support families.

He is a well-published expert in the fields of autism and transition planning for students with special needs. He is a frequent invited guest presenter and has collaborated extensively with faculty and staff on over 100 publications.

Previous academic and research appointments include positions at Fordham University and the Yale Child Study Center.

He holds a Ph.D. in social work from Columbia University and a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.
