Miscellaneous Fee Descriptions

AIB Department Fee

The AIB department fee is charged each semester to undergraduate AIB students. The revenue generated from this fee supports the various needs of the departments within AIB such as the purchase of supplies and equipment and studio maintenance.

Declined Credit Card Fee

A fee of $50.00 is charged to the student's account for any declined credit card transaction.  The University may require that future payments be made by check or money order.

Degree Completion Fee

Students who file a Declaration of Intent to Graduate will be charged a degree completion fee of $125.00. The Declaration of Intent to Graduate must be submitted by the deadlines specified on the Office of the University Registrar's web page for graduating students.

The degree completion fee covers a portion of the significant administrative expenses involved in auditing your record to verify completion of program requirements; publication, design, and printing of the Commencement Program, which includes every graduate for the academic year; printing and proofing of diplomas; diploma cases; diploma postage and handling expenses; and other assorted administrative tasks.

Students will receive a billing statement for the degree completion fee with a specified due date.

Field Experience Fee/Affiliation Fee

The revenue generated by the field experience fee (called the affiliation fee for students participating in collaborative programs) is used to support the services of the field placement office, field training sites, supervising practitioners, and Lesley program supervisors.

Health Service Fee

The health service fee is a per semester, mandatory fee for all students living in campus housing. The fee supports the services provided by Lesley Health Service including basic primary medical health care, mental health care, and health education counseling programs.

Lab Fee

The lab fee is required for some science and computer courses. The fee supports the use of the laboratory in conjunction with course work.

Late Payment Fee

Past due student accounts will be assessed a monthly late payment fee of $100.00. Students who have been awarded financial aid will not be charged the late payment fee on the amount the financial aid will cover. Students enrolled in and paying on a payment plan will not be charged the late payment fee on the portion of the account covered by the payment plan.

If you want to dispute a late payment fee on your statement, write to the Student Accounts Office, 29 Everett Street, Cambridge, MA 02138-2790, or send an email to studentaccounts@lesley.edu within sixty days of the bill on which the late payment fee appeared. Include the following information:

  • Your full name and Lesley ID number
  • The dollar amount of the late charge
  • An explanation as to why you believe there is an error. If you need more information, describe the item you are not sure about.

The Student Accounts Office will research your dispute and contact you within thirty days of receipt of your letter with an explanation.

Late Registration Fee

Students who register for courses that occurred in a past semester will be charged a $100.00 late registration fee per semester. The late registration fee is non-refundable.

Material Fee

Material fees are determined by the various departments throughout the University. Material fee revenue is used to off-set the costs of course materials such as handouts.

New Student Orientation

This one-time fee is charged to undergraduate students at the start of their first semester. This fee covers the administrative and operation costs associated with the new student orientation.

Online Technology Fee

The online technology fee supports the maintenance and growth of the University's technological infrastructure. The technology fee is used to fund improved access to and assistance with information technology and to fund other types of instructional equipment. This fee is also used to expand the University's online technology programs.

PhD Continuation Fee

The continuation fee is charged to PhD students after their first eight semesters of doctoral study. This fee supports advising services and academic support for PhD students as they complete their degree requirements. This fee is charged to the student account upon registering in the Doctoral Study course number 9151.

PhD Matriculation Fee

The matriculation fee is charged to PhD students during their first eight semesters of doctoral study. This fee supports advising services and academic support for PhD students as they complete their degree requirements. This fee is charged to the student account upon registering in the Doctoral Study course number 9151.

Practicum Insurance Fee

The practicum insurance fee covers the cost of liability insurance for students in field experience and internship courses.

Registration Fee

The registration fee is charged to all students taking campus-based courses, including online courses, each semester. The fee supports the administrative costs of processing registrations, managing room assignments, and course scheduling. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Residency Fee

The residency fee is charged to students participating in residency-based programs per residency. The fee varies by department. Funds generated by the residency fee support the costs of meals and lodging associated with the residency.

Returned Check Fee

The University will automatically re-deposit any returned checks received for payment of a student account. A $50 returned check fee will be charged to the student account if the check is returned after the re-deposit attempt. The University may require that future payments be made by certified check or money order. Should a check be returned due to a bank error, a letter from the bank will allow us to accept personal checks and the returned check fee may be removed.

Student Activity Fee

The student activity fee supports a variety of services and activities for campus-based students such as student organizations and services, social events, counseling and testing, student media, career services, campus facilities , and transportation services.

Student Health Insurance

Massachusetts state law requires all full and three quarter time students at Lesley University to participate in the school sponsored Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan or have an alternate health insurance plan with comparable coverage. To comply, students must either enroll in a Lesley-sponsored student health insurance plan, or provide proof of enrollment in an alternate qualifying insurance plan by completing the online enrollment/waiver form at www.kosterweb.com.
