Lesley Public Safety Services

Public Safety Patrol

Lesley Public Safety Officers patrol all campus areas, to include the North Porter and 815 Somerville Ave. facilities, continually seven days per week. Public Safety Officers at AIB patrol each building during all hours of operation. While patrolling, our officers monitor all activities, respond to alarms, inspect lighting, conduct fire watches, and maintain control of our parking lots. Our Officers are equipped with two-way radio communications and stay in constant contact with the Public Safety Office while on patrol.

Emergency Response

Lesley Officers are trained to respond to all emergencies (i.e. criminal, medical, fire...). It is our responsibility to maintain control of the emergency scene, administer CPR/First Aid as needed, obtain assistance from the appropriate emergency response agency and to guide that response team to the emergency location.

Emergency telephone numbers:

  • Quad Campus: 617.349.8888
  • Porter Campus: 617.349.8390, 617.349.8888
  • Art Institute of Boston: 617.349.8888
  • Brattle Campus/Episcopal Divinity School (EDS): 617.868.3017

Community members are encouraged to call 911 and then the appropriate Public Safety number below.

Escort Service

An escort program has been established at Lesley to provide additional protection to our students, faculty and staff while they walk around campus. Our Public Safety Officers are prepared to escort any member of the Lesley community upon request. If you wish to utilize this service please call 617.349.8888 if you are on the Quad Campus, 617.349.8390 or 617.349.8888 if you are at Porter, and 617.349.8888 at AIB. Once requested, an Officer will meet you at a predetermined location and escort you to your destination. Please understand this service is limited to the campus boundaries (Everett Street to the Porter Exchange facility and the EDS campus) on the Quad Campus and between 700 Beacon Street and 601 Newbury Street at AIB.

Personal Safety Alarms

The Public Safety Office has 25 personal safety alarms which may be used as an alternative to an Officer escort. These alarms emit a 130 decibel signal which may scare away any potential aggressor and will draw attention to your situation. These alarms can be signed out from the Public Safety Office on the Quad Campus at any time.

Lost and Found

The Lesley Public Safety Department serves as the central location for lost and found articles. Many articles are turned in throughout the year such as rings, keys, books, etc. If you believe you have lost any particular item please stop by or call the Public Safety Office on the Quad Campus or desk at Porter or AIB. All valuables are stored in Public Safety for one year at which time they are either given to a local charity or discarded.

Lesley University Identifications

The Public Safety Department is responsible for the generation, maintenance and control of the Lesley identification system. All members of the Lesley community are required to maintain an appropriate identification. This credential identifies you as a member of the Lesley community and allows the bearer certain privileges (i.e. use of the shuttle, access to computer areas ...). The identification also serves as your school library card.

Lesley identifications may be obtained at anytime from the Public Safety Office on the Quad Campus. Students are required to present proper identification (i.e. license) to the Public Safety representative before your Lesley student identification can be obtained.

All community members must immediately report a lost or stolen identification to Public Safety. Your lost identification will be deactivated from the system and a new one will be issued. If you have any questions regarding your identification you may contact the Public Safety office.

Card Access System

A card access system has been installed in several locations throughout Lesley. The purpose of this system is to limit access by members of the Lesley community to certain sensitive areas on campus. The magnetic stripe on the back of your Lesley identification will activate these doors. The Public Safety Department monitors the card access system.

Important: Never hold a card access door open for anyone (you may be liable for their actions). Every community member is required to swipe their own ID to access these areas.

If you have any questions or concerns about the card access system please call or stop by the Public Safety Office.

Parking

The Public Safety Department manages all parking issues for students, faculty and staff on the Quad Campus, Porter Exchange, North Porter, 815 Somerville Ave, AIB and the Brattle/EDS Campus. All faculty and staff must coordinate all parking requests for Special Events (i.e. institutes, meetings, conferences) in advance with the Public Safety Office. If you have any parking questions please call or stop by the Public Safety Office. A copy of the Lesley Parking Policy is located in the back of this Handbook or it can be reviewed on the Lesley web page under Public Safety.

Public Safety Awareness Program

The Public Safety Awareness Program at Lesley is designed to keep the community informed about some of the more sensitive safety issues facing students today. Pamphlets, which define the following sensitive issues, are available to the Lesley community from the Public Safety Office:

  • Preventing Date Rape on Campus
  • Rape - Tough Questions No Easy Answers
  • Dying to Drink?
  • Street Sense - It’s Elementary
  • Campus Watch Challenges You
