School and Community Counseling Specialization
Offered at Lesley's Cambridge campus near Boston, this graduate-level specialization is designed for students who wish to work in both school and community settings.
Specialization Options
- School Adjustment Counselor - provides counseling training to address the mental health treatment needs of children and adolescents within a school setting. Program graduates are eligible for initial licensure in school adjustment counseling.
- School Guidance Counselor - provides counseling training to address the normal developmental needs (academic and psychological) of children and adolescents within a school setting. Graduates will be eligible for initial licensure in school guidance counseling (grades PreK-8 or 5-12).
Program Notes
- A minimum of 1,300 hours of field experience is required for each specialization
- Both specializations meet the educational requirements for mental health counseling licensure in Massachusetts and most other states
- Either program can be completed in three academic years of full-time study
