Compensatory Time

(effective 4/1/09)

With their supervisors' prior approval, support staff (non-exempt employees on the biweekly payroll) who are scheduled to work over 35 hours, may be granted compensatory time off instead of pay. Compensatory time is required to be taken during the same pay period as the overtime worked. In the event the compensatory time off is not taken during the same pay period, payment will be made on or before the end of the calendar year. Additional hours beyond 35 hours and up to 40 hours are paid at the employee's regular hourly rate. With their supervisors' prior approval, support staff who work over 40 hours in a scheduled week are eligible for overtime pay at a rate of 1.5 hours for each hour worked. See the section on OVERTIME.

Non-exempt employees who work at university functions, e.g., new student orientation or commencement, will follow the above policy for compensatory time. Supervisors will ensure that the time off is taken within the same pay period.

It is expected that Administrators (exempt employees on the monthly payroll) will work the hours necessary to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
