As a recipient of a National Science Award for the Integration of Research and Education Larkspur was a postdoctoral fellow teaching Biology, Ornithology and Biodiversity at Colby College in Waterville, ME. She has presented at the Wildlife Colloquium at the University of Maine in Orono as well as organizing and facilitating workshops on teaching and learning for her colleagues.

Larkspur is an environmental activist and traveler interested in Latin American culture and history, Zen Buddhist philosophy and practice and folk and world music. She has held leadership positions with Minnesota Public Interest Research group, thru-hiked the Appalachian trail, spent time in Peru and Bolivia and speaks Spanish. Larkspur teaches in the AEI field program.
