Recommendation Requirements for MFA Visual Arts and Photography Programs

Applicants are required to submit recommendations from individuals with whom they have worked closely in a professional or academic setting.

• Both recommendations should come from individuals who are familiar with the applicant's studio practice.
• For applicants currently in school, or recent graduates, the second recommendation should be academic in nature and specifically address the applicant's writing skills as well as their art making skills.

Recommendations written more than two years prior to the date of application or written by relatives or personal friends are not acceptable.

Recommendations must be delivered to Admissions Services in envelopes sealed by the evaluator, or faxed by the evaluator directly to the Admissions Office at 617.349.8391.
