Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure

Applicants to All Massachusetts Initial Licensure Programs

As part of the admissions process, all applicants seeking a Massachusetts Initial License must submit either:

• evidence of having taken the Communication & Literacy Skills MTEL or
• evidence of having registered for the Communication & Literacy Skills MTEL

Applicants to Middle School Education and High School Education Initial Licensure Programs Only

In addition, applicants to Middle School and High School Education Programs must have completed a college's or university's major requirements in the discipline associated with the program to which they are applying, or have successfully passed the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) in the corresponding content area.
