An Arts Approach to Scientific Field Journals
Monday 2/19/08 | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Lesley University, University Hall Room 02-124

Art and science go hand in hand. Throughout time, each has relied on observation to interpret what is happening in the world. In this workshop, learn to hone your skills as an artist-researcher through a variety of exciting and unique practices in using a field journal. This workshop will go well beyond paper and pencil, to include ways we can redefine the field journal by incorporating technology, dance and movement, painting, poetry, and so much more! We will explore a wide range of arts, media and materials, techniques, and exercises to better understand the field journal as an infinitely creative part of the artist-researcher's toolkit.

Green & Clean: The Science of Homemade Products:
Tuesday 2/20/08 | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Lesley University, University Hall Room 02-124

Did you know you can actually make most of your household cleaning, bathing, and beauty products? This workshop will incorporate the chemistry behind making your own body care and cleaning products like soap, lip balm, and cleaners. In addition students will be exposed to the biology behind certain plants and essential oils used in the creation of the products. Not only will students get to take home their creations, but they will learn how creating our own products can limit our waste and environmental impact!

Cooking with STEAM: Kitchen Chemistry
Wednesday 2/21/08 | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Lesley University, University Hall Room 02-124

Cooking is a practice that combines chemistry, kitchen technology, basic engineering principles, artistic embellishments, and mathematical accuracy. Students will have the opportunity to create delicious treats in the Lesley laboratory while understanding the different aspects of science and technology that are important to cooking, fermenting, and baking.

Get SET for Winter: Winter Camp Skills and Ecology
