Irene Fountas

Irene C. Fountas, Professor and Author, Lesley University
Irene Fountas is a professor in the School of Education at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. where she directs research-based literacy projects. She has been a classroom teacher, language arts specialist, and consultant in school districts across the nation and abroad.
A recipient of several awards for her contributions to literacy, Fountas has co-authored numerous books and articles related to language and literacy teaching with Gay Su Pinnell. Their latest publications are the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, Grades K-8 and The Continuum of Literacy Learning, Grades K-8: Behaviors and Understandings to Notice, Teach, and Support.
