Use ARRA Stimulus Dollars on Professional Development by the Center

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 offers an unprecedented opportunity for schools and districts that have been struggling with the economic downturn to embark on transformative, new initiatives.

Lesley University’s Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative offers a wide variety of professional development offerings in the literacy field, grades pre-K to 8. All of our offerings are based on sound research and fit the guidelines and criteria established for the use of these federal funds.

We have professional development for:

  • Literacy Coaches
  • Intervention Specialists
  • Elementary School Teachers
  • Middle School Teachers
  • School Administrators
  • Staff Developers

Many of these professional development opportunities have a larger cost in the first year and a much smaller cost in the subsequent years, which fits with the funding timelines for the ARRA money.

For additional information on ways to use ARRA funds, visit the U.S. Department of Education's idea page.
