What Matters in Response to Intervention (RTI)
A Two-Day Institute with Dr. Richard Allington and Lesley University Faculty, July 20-21
Join us for an informative institute about effective reading instruction and models that meet the needs of struggling readers.
Day one will feature Dr. Richard Allington, author of What Really Matters in Response to Intervention. Dr. Allington will discuss research-based elements of effective intervention design and recent research.
Day two will highlight Lesley University faculty focusing on in-depth work around RTI in small groups. Participants will have the opportunity to choose two breakout sessions that match their interests. Session topics will include:
- Responding to the Needs of English Language Learners
- Using Data Walls to Monitor Student Progress and Interventions
- The Role of Assessment: Universal Screening and Progress Monitoring Tools
- The Critical Role of Texts in Effective Intervention
Meet our Faculty Presenters:
Cindy Dowened is a faculty member at Lesley University Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative with over 20 years of educational experience as a classroom teacher, and Reading Recovery teacher. She has also held many leadership roles in a variety of diverse settings including school districts in Florida, Minnesota, Michigan and Germany. Cindy holds National Board Certification and an advanced degree in Educational Leadership.

Diane Powell is the assistant director of Primary Initiatives at the Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative. She has worked for Lesley University for 10 years and prior to that was a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader.

Margaret Crosby is a faculty member at the Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative. She has many years of experience in various capacities in education. She has 27 years of classroom teaching experience ranging from kindergarten to grade eight. She has also been an elementary music teacher, curriculum coordinator, university instructor, educational consultant and Reading Recovery Teacher Leader.

Kathy Ha is a faculty member at the Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative. She has extensive classroom experience in the primary grades with expertise in bilingual education, special education and Reading Recovery. As a trainer of literacy coaches, she focuses on school improvement and developing teachers across the nation.
