Welcome to the Lesley Certification Website

The Certification Office assists past, current, and prospective students with questions about licensure and certification, state testing, recertification, and teaching in other states. As the primary contact between Lesley University and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE), the office keeps the Lesley community informed and updated on all matters related to licensure regulations and policies for teachers, administrators and counselors.

The Certification Office provides information about the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) and offers MTEL workshops and other resources to help students prepare for the exams. Please read our new MTEL Policy.

NOTE: Students in Elementary Education, Moderate Disabilities and Severe Disabilities programs are urged to read an Important MTEL Notice: New Mathematics Test as Part of General Curriculum MTEL.  In response to the General Curriculum math subtest, Lesley has developed a new ONLINE Math Diagnostic and Math GC Preparation Workshop. Students in programs leading to licensure in Elementary Education, Moderate, and Severe Disabilities will take the online Math Diagnostic in the following introductory courses: CEDUC 1352, EEDUC 5146, GARED 6110, ESPED 5100.

The Certification Office is responsible for endorsing Lesley University graduates of state approved educator licensure programs for Massachusetts certification, which includes teachers, specialists, administrators, school guidance and school adjustment counselors.* When students submit an Endorsed Transcript Request Form to Certification, we audit the program of study to ensure the completion of all requirements for educator licensure, and work with the University Registrar to have the accrediting information (endorsements) placed on student transcripts. The Certification Office also verifies completion of teacher education programs for graduates applying for out-of-state-certification.

* For mental health licenses, please contact Catherine Stalberg, the licensure advisor for the Divisions of Counseling and Psychology and Expressive Therapies, at 617.349.8561 or license@lesley.edu.
